What FicTracker is

FicTracker is a personal reading tracker for Archive of Our Own (AO3) users. It helps you organize your fanfiction library, track reading progress, and discover new works. FicTracker is built and operated by an independent developer (contact: ro.rakhit@gmail.com).

Data we collect

When you create an account, we collect:

When you use FicTracker to track your reading, we collect:

If you subscribe to FicTracker Plus, we collect your Stripe customer ID and subscription status (plan, billing period, cancellation state). Payment processing is handled entirely by Stripe — we never see or store your credit card number or bank details.

We do not collect your AO3 password or session credentials, the full text of any fanwork, browsing history outside of AO3, or any data from websites other than archiveofourown.org.

How we handle your data

All data collected is processed solely to provide and improve the FicTracker service. Specifically, we use your data to:

We do not use your data for advertising, behavioural profiling, or any purpose beyond operating FicTracker. We do not sell your data.

AI Picks feature (Plus only)

When you use the AI Picks feature, a taste profile is constructed from the metadata of your highly-rated works (titles, authors, fandoms, and relationships/ships). This profile is sent to Anthropic's API (the service that powers Claude) to generate personalized search strategies. No personally identifiable information — such as your email address or AO3 username — is included in this request. Anthropic's data handling is governed by Anthropic's Privacy Policy.

Data storage

Your account and reading data is stored in a Supabase-hosted PostgreSQL database located in the United States. Row-level security is enforced at the database level, meaning no user can access another user's data. All data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and encrypted at rest. The web application frontend is hosted on Vercel.

The Chrome extension stores the following data locally in your browser using chrome.storage.local:

No other data is persisted locally by the extension. The extension does not use cookies.

Data sharing and third parties

We do not sell or share your personal data with advertisers or unaffiliated third parties. FicTracker uses the following third-party services, each of which may process a limited portion of your data as necessary to operate:

How the Chrome extension works

The FicTracker Chrome extension is granted permission to run only on archiveofourown.org pages. It reads publicly visible metadata from AO3 work pages (title, author, tags, chapter count, and similar fields) to populate your library and track chapter progress. All data syncing occurs exclusively between the extension and FicTracker's backend on Supabase. The extension does not access any other websites, does not inject content into non-AO3 pages, and does not transmit data to any party other than Supabase.

How bookmarklets work

FicTracker's optional bookmarklets run in your browser on AO3 pages when you manually activate them. They read AO3 page content (bookmark lists, reading history, or individual work pages) and send the extracted work metadata to FicTracker's backend. The reading history bookmarklet operates on your private AO3 history page, but only the extracted work metadata is transmitted — we never access, read, or transmit your AO3 session, cookies, or credentials.

Data retention and deletion

Your data is retained for as long as your account remains active. You can remove individual works from your library at any time within the app. You have the following rights regarding your data:

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes in any meaningful way, the update date at the top of this page will be revised. FicTracker is a small, independent project — the goal is always to collect as little data as possible and keep your reading history private.
